A Daughter of the King

It occurred to me the other day that Joelle is living as if she is still in the orphanage. She is relying on herself to meet her needs. When she becomes fearful, angry or stressed she returns to her old patterns of meeting her needs rather than running to us, her Mommy and Daddy.

The truth is that this is a powerful picture of who we are as believers. Many times we live as orphans although the truth is that we are children of the King! We sit on the floor playing in the dirt eating our dry, scrap of bread and on the other side of the room there is a huge banquet of food - apple tarts with shiny glazes, succulent hams, filet mignon, and chocolate tortes. How silly of us to do this yet I am a great offender in this area!

Sometimes it does not matter what the reality is because we LIVE OUT what we truly believe in our mind. It shows how powerful our mind can be if we allow it. Scripture tells us to renew our mind - which basically means we need to align our thinking with what scripture tells us. Are we believing lies? Then go to scripture to see what God says and choose to believe Him rather than the lie!

So the truth is that Joelle has a Mommy and Daddy who love her and want to meet her needs. Our job is to teach her that she is indeed our child, she is safe with us, she is not going anywhere and she is our daughter forever. It is safe to run to us!

  1. Isn't it amazing how the Lord teaches us about ourselves through the adoption of our children? Our relationship with Christ, certainly helps us in understanding their plight.
